Online Nursing Programs -Become Very Popular
By onlinenursingprograms, 13:42

In today’s digital era, education can now be acquired online through the Internet.  Online nursing programs have particularly become very popular because of the shortage of nurses.  The healthcare industry is the only one that is recession proof and it is estimated that the jobs in nursing will grow exponentially in the next decade.  Online programs has paved the way for those students who want to pursue higher education but are not in a position to attend regular campus based programs in a university or college.  Online nursing programs are structured in such a way as to prepare the student for mainstream jobs while he or she has the advantage of acquiring the degree from anyplace at his or her own convenience.

Nursing required practical competence, so most programs will include clinical sessions at a nearby medical facility.  The non-clinical sessions are completed online and the clinical sessions require the physical presence of the student.  It is not possible to complete this practical component online.

The important features of such programs are listed below:

Some programs allow the student to work at their own pace and start and end the program at any time they choose in a rolling environment.  There are some schools which require the student to follow the same quarter or semester schedule as the traditional campus-based programs.
There are many online nursing programs that follow a structured pattern in which students commence the course at the same time and are divided into groups that go through together.  There is a designated start date.  There are also some programs in which the student can start the course at any time.
There is no personal contact between the instructors and the students but communication through e-mails and chat sessions proves equally rewarding.  Instructor’s lectures are received in written form.
Commonly offered online nursing programs are RN to BSN and MSN degrees.  Some institutions do offer a variety of advanced degree and certificate options, but these are few in number.
Man y institutes allow students to complete proficiency exams such as the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) or the Proficiency Examination Program (PEP) instead of course work.  This is especially applicable in areas in which they have work experience or knowledge gained though independent study.
The advantages of an online nursing program are listed below:
These programs are quick and convenient.
They are cost effective as they cost less than regular programs.  The price ranges from less than $100 to $300 dollars per credit.  The average tuition falls in the $110 to $170 range.  Enrolment fees may also be charged.

Since these programs are flexible, one can work around personal commitments, especially would-be mothers and mothers with young children at home.
The healthcare industry is constantly changing and these programs help professional nurses to keep abreast of the changes.  They can also be tailored to meet specific goals.
Online nursing programs may be completed in 2 to 3 years or even sooner as per your requirements.
